In addition to working as

Knut Værnes trio
8:97
This
is my second CD recording with Knut Værnes, and it started a great ongoing
friendship with the world famous drummer Danny Gottlieb.(ex.
Pat Metheney, Blues Brothers, Gil Evans, Mahavishnu etc).
The album was recorded in two days in August 97 (therefore the title), and
I play acoustic as well as all my electrics including the fretless 8 string
bass guitar.
Danny Gottlieb is such a musical drummer, and makes it easy for everyone to
play, as I am sure you can hear from this recording.
Knut has some seriously great guitar playing on
this one, so this should be interesting to check out for a lot of people.
I contributed one tune on this one, a strange blues called "Hey,
that's my line!". This tune has since changed name to
“I’m gone” and appears on “Dig it!”

Knut Værnes
Super Duper
This
is the same trio as on 8:97 augmented by Jørn Øien on organ and piano, and Danny Gottlieb's wife,
Beth Gottlieb on percussion.
The tunes on this CD are more arranged and radio friendly than on the
previous release and they were recorded in October 98 and August 99.
I play acoustic bass, as well as various electric basses on this CD.

Helge Lien Trio
What are you doing the rest of your life
Debut
recording of the Helge Lien trio recorded at the
State academy of music in 2000.
Helge Lien is a very lyrical piano player (one of
my absolute favorites in the world), and together
with the exceptionally creative drummer/percussionist Knut
Aalefjær, this recording has become one of my most
interesting to date!
It is a mix of originals and standard tunes played in a very free manner
with a focus on collective improvisation.
I played my acoustic
bass exclusively on this.

Helge Lien trio
Spiral circle
The trios second
effort, now on the legendary DIW label.
This is mainly Helge's originals, but also
features classics such as "Take five", and "Speak no
evil"
The sound is a loose collectively improvised pallette
where all instruments share the same importance throughout the tunes.

Helge Lien trio
Assymetrics
The
second recording for DIW, and the trios 3rd
to date.
This
one ventures more into uptempo soundscapes and even more creative collective
improvisation. Also includes mesmerising ballads and a couple of jazz
standards stretched to outer limits! One of my favourite recordings to
date!
